Ratings & Tasting notes:
The 2017 vintage was never rated. However the 2012 and 2013 vintages received a perfect 100 points score from Robert Parker. The 2014 Vintage was 99 points. 2017 shared many things in common with the 2017 vintage, and this is one heck of a wine. Leading us to believe this would be a 99+ point wine if rated.
This family-run winery has worked for over 20 years to acquire some of the best vineyard sites in Napa. With small production counts and a passionate team, they produce luxurious, high-quality wines. Their Cabernet Franc comes from their Rutherford estate, which consists of 12 acres of Bordeaux varietals and Sangiovese. Robert Parker has praised the producer: “Here’s an insider’s tip for visitors to Napa Valley: Don’t dare miss a tasting at Del Dotto’s cellars… Dave Del Dotto (who made a fortune in the infomercial business) has put together an impressive team of winemakers and spent a fortune securing some of the best vineyard sites money can buy. All things considered, his wines, which he calls “silk juice,” are exceptional in quality, along with his charcuterie, which really could be sold for a small fortune, given the amazing quality it exhibits.” (10/2016)
From the winery:
100% Cabernet Sauvignon from all of our Estate Vineyards made up of 50% St. Helena Mountain, 25% Oakville Vineyard, 10% Vineyard 887, 5% Howell Mountain, 5% Rutherford Estate, 5% Villa Del Lago
The 2017 Beast is another stellar combination of the finest Cabernet’s from our six Estate properties. One hundred percent Cabernet Sauvignon hand selected from our vineyards in St. Helena, Rutherford, Oakville, Howell Mountain and Pritchard Hill. First glance the color is opaque, visually hearty and powerful. The bouquet is intense with butterscotch, shaved dark chocolate, graphite, fresh cut tobacco, mushroom and blackberry marmalade. The mouthfeel is near perfect, viscous and well balanced. Flavors of mocha and truffle are intertwined with graham cracker, chocolate eclair, blueberries, boysenberries and black raspberries. The richness is profound and the finish is seemingly endless. The 2017 vintage as a whole is shaping up to be very approachable, lush wines with enough structure to age gracefully for years to come. Drink now for the next 10-15 years. Enjoy!
