Tasting Notes:
93 points Allen Meadows – Burghound
A background note of wood spice highlights exquisitely expressive and finely detailed white flower perfume that is incredibly nuanced and complex. The intensely mineral flavors are unbelievably pure and there is a silky texture here yet the cut and delineation are superb. To be sure, this is an edgy wine with a stony character that is so intense that it defines the character of the wine. In sum, this is classically styled, deeply complex and possesses flat out wonderful purity. Wow!…Bouchard winemaker Philippe Prost was extremely enthusiastic about the Bouchard ’02s, explaining that ‘2002 is a vintage built on its acidity but it has excellent ripeness, both in terms of sugar and phenolically too. As soon as we crushed the fruit, it was obvious that we had something special…As to the harvest, the fruit was extremely clean, sugars were excellent yet the bright acidity has made for very pure wines and in my view, 2002 is superior to 2000.’ As the scores will suggest, this is a great set of whites and the wines are clearly better than what the two prior vintages produced. 93 points Vinous
Reticent, deeply pitched aromas of pineapple and liquid stone. Rich and racy, with terrific precision and cut. A strongly stony wine with superb inner-mouth aromatic character. The citrus oil notes are currently dominated by steely minerality. As bracing as the Genevrieres, finishing with superb clarity and persistence. Grand cru quality. (ST) (10/2003)
