Tasting Notes:

18/20 pts. Jancis Robinson

"We had a vote at the end and this was probably second favourite after the Cos. The Cabernet answer to Grange is even more intense in terms of both colour and aroma than the Chilean with just the slightest hint of cough-medicine spice overlaying the opulent ripeness and velvety texture with just a hint of some very ripe tannins. You can tell that it shouldn’t really be drunk this early but there is no shortage of ingredients to admire even at this stage. This with its extra sweet vanilla overlay nicely demonstrated American oak rather than the French oak used for the Chilean wine. Jancis Robinson

91 points Wine Spectator: "Firm, focused and juicy, with an oaky frame around black olive, black cherry and a touch of pepper as the cedary finish sails on and on. Best from 2008 through 2017." (10/05) Bin 707 is Penfolds cabernet sauvignon Grange equivalent: ripe, intensely-flavored fruit; completing fermentation and matured in new American oak; and expressing the Penfolds’ policy of multi-vineyard, multi-region fruit sourcing. The 2002 shows dark stone fruits, mocha and dark chocolate flavors standing apart with a black olive, tarry 'darkness' lurking behind – 14 months in 100% new oak handled comfortably. Succulent and fleshy without any suggestion of over ripeness, facilitated by huge, ripe, mouth coating tannins that coat evenly without excessive grip. Long and lingering."
